Why should I consider vitamin injections?

Your body needs vitamins to function properly. When you take vitamins orally, the supplements must travel through your digestive system, meaning your body may not absorb 100% of the nutrients. The same is true for the vitamins you get from your diet.

Vitamin injections are absorbed 100%, ensuring you receive the full benefit of your treatment.

You should consider regular vitamin injections to optimize and maintain overall good health. You can also use vitamin injections to support treatments you’re receiving for existing health conditions.

The team at Lux Health Optimization and Beauty can determine if vitamin injections are right for you after a review of your health history and a physical exam.

FrequentlyAsked Questions

1. What is the difference between an IV Drip, IV push and injection boost?

IV is an abbreviation for “intravenous”. To administer an IV Drip, a small plastic tube (catheter) is inserted into a vein using a needle that is quickly removed once the plastic tube is advanced into the vein. IV Drips consist of 500 to 1000 ml of fluid with a mixture of vitamins and anti-oxidants. The intravenous route is the fastest way to deliver fluids and vitamins throughout the body with 100 % absorption into the bloodstream. IV Drips usually take 45-60 min to infuse.

A Vitamin Booster Shot is a quick 10-second injection that delivers vitamins intramuscularly, directly into the gluteus or deltoid muscle. There is no IV access required with vitamin boosters. The dosages of vitamins also differ since the rate of absorption is different with an IV going directly into the bloodstream, and a booster going into the muscle, which allows a smaller volume of vitamins to be injected.

2. How does vitamin Drip IV therapy work?

IV Vitamin Therapy works by administration of vitamins and nutrients directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. This provides increased cell absorption and 100% bio availability of vitamins via IV infusion. Booster shots are administered via intramuscular (IM) injection so there is no GI metabolism, which also allows for increased absorption. With oral supplements, you only get about 20% absorption after filtering through your digestive system, which clearly pales in comparison to IV vitamins.

3. How long does Drip IV therapy last?

After an IV infusion, the vitamins remain in your system and maintain your levels for 2-3 weeks.

4. How often should I have a Drip IV?

The frequency of IV Drip therapy is determined on a patient by patient basis, we take a customized approach to suit your individual needs. For preventative health and wellness, we recommend two IV drips per month to help balance out any vitamin deficiencies.

In some cases, with people who suffer from advanced stages of autoimmune diseases or cancer, continued IV therapy may be necessary for nutritional support. Some clients get progressively better and after a series of treatments they no longer require ongoing weekly IV therapy, only monthly treatments to maintain balance. Other clients need regular vitamin injections in order to help alleviate symptoms of their chronic or common medical conditions.

5. What does Drip IV vitamin therapy treat?

There are many conditions that IV Vitamin Therapy can assist in treating; including autoimmune diseases, chronic ailments and common vitamin deficiencies. While it is famously used for detoxification and hydration to treat hangovers, it can treat so much more.

6. Are there any contraindications?

There are no specifically reported side effects. Almost anyone can use IV fluids for hydration. Caution is advised in those with known congestive heart failure, renal failure, or liver disease. Please notify staff if you have a rare previous allergy to any vitamins or micronutrients.

7. Do Drip IV infusions cause bruising?

Bruising is a known side effect that rarely occurs in a minority of peripheral IVs. Due to the catheter insertion into a vein, the venipuncture itself can lead to bruising for a few reasons: patient’s vein anatomy such as angle, size, venous wall fragility, and previous scarring. We minimize this at by using highly skilled medical professionals.

8. Can I have an allergic reaction?

We always ask about allergy information before providing any treatments. Allergic reactions to IV vitamin therapy are also rare but can occur if a patient has an unknown allergy to one of the nutrients used. All nutrient information about IV Drips is provided upon request. Reactions to the vitamins themselves are unlikely since they are all naturally present in the body.

9. Can I overdose on Drip IV vitamin therapy?

Most IV treatments are not recommended more than 2 times per month because of the highly concentrated doses provided. The vitamins remain in your system and help maintain levels for 2-3 weeks. However, it varies on the individual and reason for treatment. For example, someone looking for adjunctive cancer treatment can receive multiple high dose vitamin C IV drips per month versus someone looking to use IV vitamin therapy as a preventative health measure. Please consult your medical provider to determine if IV Vitamin Therapy is right for you.
